The ability to add names to the voting poll is now closed, so the list of names will not be changing again. This means you have until 5pm Friday 17th to finalise your vote.

Names that you have not voted on will be treated as you saying “I don’t like it but I could tolerate it” (yellow). If you’ve classified names you would tolerate as hates, you might want to review your votes – hates are being treated as names you cannot tolerate (i.e. treated as stuff you really do hate).

Once voting is complete, the top 5-10 (depending on where the score breakpoints are then – at the moment it would be the top 7) names will be set up in a form submission where people can choose:

• 1st Name Preference
• 2nd Name Preference
• OPTIONAL: 1 Name Veto Vote

The name veto vote will be a REAL veto – if there is a name with 0 veto votes, it will be selected over a name with one or more veto votes EVEN IF that name had no 1st or 2nd preferences as well. If there are no names with 0 veto votes, the ones with a single veto will be compared to each other. If there are no names with none or 1 veto, then names with 2 vetos will be compared. In all cases, names with the same number of vetos (none, one, two) will be ordered by 1st/2nd pref votes. For ordering these, the 1st and 2nd pref votes will be added together to determine total number of supporting people. If the total votes for two names are tied, the proportion of 1st/2nd preference will be used to determine which has “more” support. In the event of there still being a tie between names, we’ll refer back to the original poll to decide between the tied names. It will be perfectly valid to choose not to veto any name if there isn’t one that you want to try to specifically block the use of.

The submission form will be a blind submission. I’ll aim to get the submission form up before 6pm Friday 17th after closing the main poll. My intention (unless someone has a particular reason why they cannot do so – if so, leave a comment below so we can revise this asap) is that submissions of the above 1st/2nd/veto votes will close 5pm Monday 20th (to give people time to think about them and either vote from home over the weekend or from work the next week), and I’ll post the summary results and chosen name as soon as possible after that.
